A. you'd be looking for refrigeration tonnage. One refrigeration ton is the amount of energy required to melt (or form) 1 ton of ice into water at constant temperature. Some window units have a tonnage and BTU rating, but refrigeration is generally tonnage, and heating is BTU just to make things less confusing for consumers. with a 1500 cubic foot room, with 800 square feet of walls, ceilings and floors, and probably a window or two, unless it was built in the 60's or earlier, you'll probably just need a small unit; 1 ton or less. most 1500-2000 square foot homes use a 3-5 ton unit, and 2000-3000 square foot homes can generally get away with 5-7 tons. larger homes often have more than one air conditioner, and split the load into… [cont.]

How does a central air condition system use water to make air cooler?
Q. My family has a central heating and cooling system(ac is located on side of the house on a plat form, and I have been standing on the side of the house and I feel hot air being blown out of one side and air being sucked in the other side, well I often take the water house and just let cool water run on the side where air is being sucked in at,does anyone know if that will make the air in the house cooler?

A. The outside unit is called the condenser,... it rejects heat that was absorbed by the refrigerant in the evaporator inside. When you spray the condenser coil you are helping condense the refrigerant, lowering the load on the whole system and making the evaporator operate at a much cooler temperature. I don't recommend standing out there wasting water either,... there are systems available that will trickle water on the condenser coil during the hottest part of the day and stop at night. They are commercially advertised in my area as "a/c spritzer"... (not a salesman) I haven't made up my mind on these systems... But I do know that it will definitely make the system blow cooler air. Now,.. that is no substitute for properly maintaining… [cont.]

A. For a correct answer, I think you need to restate your question. There are several ways to cool air. The best solution depends on several factors. An evaporative cooler will only work well if you live where the humidity is very low. An air conditioner is best where the humidity is high. More details on your environment and the type of cooling system you are referring to is needed.

When we use air cooler why does it become humid & also apart from where air blows remaining areas are hot?
Q. Why is that arear around the air cooler like back of the cooler and the sides hot when air cooler is switched on? Only where the air blows that place will be cool remaining places it will be hot. What is the reason and how to get around this? Especially considering that Air Cooler is cheaper option than Air Conditioner.

A. heat is generated in order to provide cool air. Consider your refrigeration unit. In order to make the interior cold heat has to be extracted. That's why the sides and cooling fins of your fridge get hot. Same thing with the air cooler.

A. Last weekend I was in Currys. The choice: 200 for a small portable air-con unit, or 50 for an air cooler I figured it was worth risking 50... it's an evaporative cooler. You put water (8 litres) and optionally frozen cool blocks (3 supplied) into the bottom of the device. A 3 speed fan with an oscillating (left/right sweep) blows a very pleasant stream of cold air... But it's not air-con. On the plus side, that means I don't have to vent it to the outside (to get rid of the heat it would generate) - just as well, because I'd have to have all the doors & windows closed to get any benefit anyway... On balance: worth the 50. I suspect that the portable air-con wouldn't be worth the 200 - I don't think I could persuade the rest of… [cont.]

Can I use a air cooler in the room where my system is?
Q. This summer my room where my system is getting heated, I am not able to even sit in the room in front of the system. So, can I use an air cooler? Will it affect the performance of the system?
Asked by pmksai - Sun May 11 02:14:43 2008 - - 10 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Computer chips and peripherals can get heated and may even get burnt in summers...!!! Cooling the room is a gr8 idea. But ensure few things..!! Do not face the cooler directly towards the system...!! sprincles of water from the cooler are not good for the system too..!!! get some free hard-disk temperature monitoring software...and monitor this temperature...if overheating is observed , open the side panel of the cpu..!! Regarding you, you'll be just fine with the cooler..!!lol

With an air cooler only the part where the air blows it will be cold and remaining will be humid or warm. why?
Q. When we have an air cooler I observe that the front of the fan or the blower will be cold however the remaining parts like behind the cooler and areas where we dont have the fan blowing it will be warm. The other areas are more warm than when we dont use an air cooler. What is the solution for this problem especially if we dont have proper ventilation or if the room is small.

How does this Sharper Image fan produce cooler air?
Q. I want to get this for my room; it has a temperature device and a sensor for getting the air to a target temperature. Will it actually produce cooler air in a hot room, though? I don't need another fan, but I like this because it may actually produce the cooler air, but I'm not sure if it'll work. Forgot the link:
Asked by BrianN - Sat Apr 15 13:44:54 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. no it just circulates the air. a fan that shoots air into your face, without cooling it, feels "cooler" because the hotter air that developed around the surface of your skin was blown away and replaced by ambient temperature air, which is cooler. anything that genuinely lowers air temperature would require some sort of chemical input, usually freon. This device uses nothing of the manner. so no. it just circulates.

Do automobiles AC work better/cooler if it is set to recirculate the air.?
Q. My friend says it uses the cool air and therefore is able to be cooler, I am skeptical.
Asked by D J - Tue Jul 15 00:01:03 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It works better on recirculate. However the automakers recommend that you only use recirculate to initially cool down the interior and then switch to fresh air. The problem is that when your on recirculate you are not getting any fresh air and the inside air is going to get stale. And if you have an exhaust leak you are going to die.

Q. Hello all! I am a college student attending Eastern Michigan University, and I am about to move in one of the University's apartments- the Munson Apartments. I am wondering should I buy an air cooler? I do not think that my apartment building will let me use a window air conditioner so I was wondering does the air coolers work? Also, what price is a good buy? Thanks
Asked by Desmond McArthur - Wed Apr 4 21:17:48 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Air coolers work excellent. One unit will cool up 350 sq. ft. They use only as much electricity as a fan. A good price is $80.00. The only draw back is you have to fill it with water every eight hours. If it runs out of water the fan still blows air. Get one with a thermostat.

A. In the winter, when this affliction seems to affect you the most, the air is drier. You will want to use a humidifier in the winter to add humidity to the air. If you want to kill TWO birds with one stone, go to www.homedics.com and order a Brethe Air Revitalizer. This device both will add a little water to the air AND clean it at the same time. It uses the water to clean the air, and you will see the water darken the longer you use it as it collects the dirt in the air. If you want to do this on the REAL cheap, put some wet towels over the oil-fed radiator. KEEP them wet. Don't let them dry and don't do this if your radiator is electrical! *laughter* The heat from the radiator will help to evaporate the water in the towel, and… [cont.]

A. the air cooler is nothing but another fan-just another name - so dont be duped by the ads. only when u add ice then it becomes cool and then only for awhile. its a/c or fan. a/c makes the air drier but u can always place a glass of water to moisturise the room. see how fast the water disappears!

A. They actually work if well maintained. I work in the pharmaceutical industry. The air quality in our manufacturing areas must be maintained at a certain level. The air quality is maintained through HEPA filters. The air quality is tested to determine the presence of viable and non viable air particulates. You can buy a HEPA filter system for your home. I recently bought the IQ Air purifier. What is amazing is that our cat loves it. He will go up to it when it is turned off and meow until we turn it on. Then he sits on the piece of furniture closest to it and goes to sleep.

A. To answer you question correctly you have to understand aircraft engines and automotive engines are totally different. First automotive engine are designed to operate at below 212-degree temperature and are not designed to operate at full rated horsepower rating. On the other hand aircraft piston engines operate up to a max temperature in most case of 245 degrees. The reason is the tolerance is larger for aircraft engines because of the heat expansion of metal parts. It s important to know aircraft engines are designed to run at full power setting with no problems (don t try this with an automotive engine). Aircraft and automotive engines are both 4-cycle and work on the same principles. Aircraft engine burn a much higher octane fuel… [cont.]
