What does per kilowatt-hour mean? How can I explain it to a bunch of high school juniors?
Q. The real sentence is: The estimated cost to generate electricity from biomass ranges from 5.2 to 6.7 cents per kilowatt-hour.
Asked by sweetcalm<3 - Sat Mar 1 14:02:55 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It means per kilowatt, per hour. The unit cost is for each kilowatt used for a full hour. If 2 kilowatts are used then the unit cost is doubled. Likewise if the time is doubled to 2 hours then the unit cost is again doubled. The cost continues to rise pro rata with the number of kilowatts used and the number of hours they are used for.

Q. So like, how do I find it? Do I have to multiply something and something? This is the actual question: Find the cost of electricity per kilowatt-hour on your electric bill. How much does washing your clothes in a washing machine cost? Energy consumed in 1 hour(watts) for a washing machine is 425 how do i find it? I really really need your help!!!
Asked by C - Thu Jun 10 02:58:20 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The rate should be stated on the bill. It may be broken down into generating, delivery, and fuel surcharge costs. If that is the case, add the various rates together. The other way is to simply take the total bill and divide it by the kWh use for the billing period. There may be a fixed "customer charge" in there also. Your cost per kWh most likely will be somewhere between $0.04 and $0.60 depending on where you live. Watts is the rate that the machine uses electricity. It will use 425 watts whether it is on for 5 minutes or 5 hours. The rate x time gives usage. 425 watts for 1 hour is 425 watt-hours or 0.425 kilowatt-hours (kWh). If you machine doesn't need a full hour to wash your clothes, it will use less. Don

How much would it cost to pay back a 1.2 million dollar wind turbie if you get 4 cents per kilowatt hour?
Q. a 1.2 million dollar wind turbine 4 cents per kilowatt hour how would u calculate this?
Asked by gergen15 - Thu May 20 00:15:36 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If the turbine produces 1 MW, for example, That. in one year will produce an amount of energy equal to 1 MW x 365.24 day/year x 24 hour/day = 8766 MW-hours per year. But we need to multiply that by the utilization factor. Assume 20%, that is, the wind is blowing and the turbine is producing full power 20% of the time, optimistic. 8766 MW-hours per year x .2 = 1753 MW-hour per year. That will produce income, assuming no maintenance costs, of 1753 MW-hour per year x $.04 / kW-hour = $70,000 (per year) $1.2M / $70k/yr = 17 years But I made a lot of assumptions. .

Q. The kilowatt- hour is a unit of what physical quantity or quantities?
Asked by riddle - Mon May 26 19:41:33 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. *The kilowatt hour, also written kilowatt-hour, (symbol kW h, kW h or kWh) is a unit of energy. *It is most commonly used to express amounts of energy delivered by electric utilities, and it appears on electric meters and bills in some countries. *The kilowatt hour is a measure of work, the watt is a measure of power. The amount of wattage times the amount of time is the amount of work done. *It is not used in the International System of Units (SI). The SI unit of energy is the joule (J), equal to one watt second. The kilowatt hour is commonly used, though, especially for measuring electric energy. *One watt hour is equivalent to 3,600 joules (1 J/s 3600 s), thus a kilowatt hour is 3,600,000 joules or 3.6 megajoules, and a kilowatt… [cont.]

A. Pure hydrogen as its only input, or can it use other fuels and extract the hydrogen from them? One company I own stock in is making a fuel cell that runs off heavy fuel oil. Others use natural gas, gasoline, diesel, methane from brewery operations, landfill gas,... All depends on source and availability.

What is the effeciency per kilowatt hour for solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear and hydro power?
Q. What is the effeciency per kilowatt hour for solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear and hydro power?
Asked by Steffen - Sun Aug 19 20:34:07 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You have no idea what you are asking for, are you? Efficiency must be referred to something. Solar, wind, geothermal and hydro are free, because there is no charge for using it, i..e, infinite efficiency. Nuclear is the cheapest of fuels, compared to fossil ones. To build one, Solar is the most expensive, by far, because of the cost per kwh for the panels which also need inverters and batteries. Wind is the least expensive to build, but is erratic and also requires some sort or energy accumulation, like batteries or other compensating source. Hydro, nuclear and geothermal require huge investments and many years of planning.

A. One kilowatt hour is exactly 3.6 megajoules, which is the amount of energy transferred if work is done at a rate of one thousand watts for one hour. Ex: If a heater is rated at 1000 watts (1 kilowatt) and that heater is on for one hour then one kilowatt hour is used.
